In an initiative to contribute significantly to the AIDS affected, two global brands - Apple Computer and Motorola, have come up with products in collaboration with RED, an organization founded by U2 lead singer, Bono, and Bobby Shriver to fight against AIDS in Africa.

Both Apple and Motorola will contribute a purported part of their sales proceeds towards the global fund to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Apple recently announced the iPod nano RED Special Edition, which has all features of the iPod nano. This edition comes in a red aluminum enclosure, and features 24 hours of battery life. Available in an incredibly thin and lightweight design, the iPod RED edition features Apple's innovative Click Wheel. All nano RED models will include redesigned earbud headphones plus a USB 2.0 cable.

Available world-wide in a 4GB model, the RED edition of nano will be available through Apple retail and online stores for a price of $199. Apple has committed to contributing $10 from the sale of each iPod nano RED to the Global Fund. In addition, the company will also offer an an iTunes RED gift card for around $25, beginning next month.

As part of the same initiative, Motorola has launched the RED Motorazr V3m. This is the first in a series of products being developed by the company - in its role as exclusive world-wide wireless partner for RED.

The V3m is a Bold Red ultra-thin clamshell housed in aircraft grade aluminium. With a spun metal keypad, the phone with CDMA network includes features such as RED screen savers, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with 4x digital zoom and video capture, playback and streaming, Bluetooth wireless technology, and speakerphone.

The RED V3m will be available only through US Cellular at the Moto RED Chicago Store on October 13, for a price of $79.95, and will come with a two-year contract. Motorola on its part has pledged $17 per model sold to the Global Fund.

The company has also launched Studio RED, a series of physical and virtual destinations, as part of its support for RED. Studio RED will keep consumers up-to-date on Motorola RED activities, purchase benefits, and rewards, besides offering exclusive theme-based content.

The RED V3m is slated to be available in all US Cellular Stores starting early next month.
