OUR MAJOR ONGOING PROJECT :

Commercialisation of Improved Biomass Fuels & Cooking Devices in India: Scale-Up

Funding Agency: Shell Foundation, UK
Project Duration: Jan 2006 to Dec 2009

With a view to tackle Indoor Air Pollution, the major health concern in rural households presently using traditional biomass fuels in traditional cookstoves, this project is aimed at establishing sustainable business chains for supplying clean biomass energy cooking products to the rural population in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Based on a successful pilot project during 2003-05, which proved that rural households are willing to buy the products if there is a proper emphasis on awareness generation and availability of the products at an affordable cost through commercial channels, this scale up project aspires to reach out to at least 16,00,000 rural households at the end of its duration.
