Hufreesh or Abstract Realism

by an art of abstract realism
is meant that the principle of abstraction
is not a medium for representation,
natural or technical.

a natural medium might be
a lens of natural or cultural forms
through which a movement of consciousness
expresses itself.

a technical medium might be
a theoretical form such as a color field,
once an innovation, now a tradition,
in transduction with a movement of consciousness.

Such media for transduction,
whether natural, cultural or theoretical,
have immense importance in themselves
as forms of collective individuation
carrying history as an evolving body

but that there can be an abstract realism
is a pointer in another direction, a signal
of an intensity equal spirit and matter,
hence arche-med(ium/a).

hufreesh’s abstracts are pointers
of this non-representational abstract realism
not to be mistaken either
with abstract materialism, where the principle(s)

whether color, texture or form
imprint themselves as movements directly
onto a physio-chemical or even biochemical substrate
a machinic geo-aesthetics or aesthetics of accident.

this, indeed, is the materiality
of the art object, but what it expresses
is a realism of pure becoming
matter of an intense relationality
phylogenetically coincident.

whether splintered mineral strata
suspensions of coagulating biota
vortices of chromatic circulation or
sizzling ascents of incandescent plasma –

the stacked fractal verticalities
are co-present in this concrescence
of transitions, thresholds, liminalities of passage –

color, texture, shape of psychic affect
captured in the process of becoming archetype
in the relative viscosity of consciousness-media.

in this way it is characteristic
of an artist resident of Auroville,
a city dedicated to spiritual experimentation
towards an earthly divine manifestation.

Note of course that terms such as “divine manifestation”
are not entirely open yet open
to plural understandings, tending towards
the formation of an utopian collective subjectivity

and individuation. at the same time,
the telos is an attractor and hence a reality-in-becoming,
that exerts its own influence from the future.

the images of artists
can give spiritual and cultural materiality
to such futures.
the abstract realism of hufreesh
exemplifies this expressive transindividuation.
