challenging the materialist view of the evolution of consciousness

Hi Michael,

Good to hear from you. I very much enjoyed our connection at AUM & hope we can continue it in some way.

> "Wannabe theist"--that's funny. Can I quote you?

Of
course you can quote me, no attribution required. 🙂 When I wrote
that, I was assuming that you defined yourself as a "theist," so it was
in that context that I made it. Did I assume correctly?

One
difficulty I have with calling myself a theist is that when we
explicitly call something "God," we risk that those not familiar with
the Yoga will conflate our ideas with their personal, usually
culturally embedded, connotations of the word. My reading of Sri
Aurobindo and the Mother is that their ideas re Purusha and Prakriti
are far more sophisticated than those held by most Westerners (and
probably Easterners too). - That's why I referenced David Chalmers'
work re pan-protopsychism. (I understand that you were using the word
in a general sense.)

One reason why I like Penrose and
Hameroff's ideas is that they are connecting science and spirituality
in fascinating ways; e.g., Penrose's mathematical work implying that
Platonic values are fundamental properties of reality at the Planck
scale of spacetime. And Hameroff's work on the possible quantum effects
occurring in the microtubules of the brain connecting humans with these
values -- I'll be saying more about this in an upcoming post.

Michael,
what do you as an M.D. think about these microtubule ideas? -- For a
quick overview, including excellent diagrams and references, see:

Hi Ron,

Thanks
for the summaries of all of this interesting work, names & details
of which are all new to me. "Wannabe theist"--that's funny. Can I quote
you?
