Kashmir

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in the 70s
Paid their tribute to the visionary territory
Meadows of saffron and poppy ringed with glaciers
Secret glens where the bovine unicorn roamed
And rituals of soma enacted by gandharvas
Crystal phials and magic resins,
the subtle sight opened to a secret sunlight
and winged golden riders of the inaudible song.

Mixed in with the wretched charred remains ,
Heart wrenching mutilation, billowing black smoke,
The pine odorous incense of Shiva and Parvati’s
Nuptials still float. Still is heard
The distant call of utopia’s anklets,
Beckoning the seeker. To the children of peace
Through the ancient fraternal blood sacrifice
The long-forgotten future like leaven swells.
